Modern Method Restores Vintage Part
When a replacement part for a restoration project was just not possible, AFS Corporate Member Aristo-Cast Inc. (Almont, Michigan) stepped in with a solution utilizing its 3D-printing capabilities combined with its investment casting process. The customer was restoring a 1929 Stearns Knight car and needed a replacement dash. The original was cast in pot metal, and the customer first made a duplicate in acrylic—but it wasn’t strong enough to support the instruments. Aristo-Cast took the acrylic sample, gave it a 3D scan and used one of its in-house solid object printers to produce the pattern required to create the bronze casting for the happy customer.
